This morning was spent discussing some strategies in the morning, and the afternoon was spent digging a 4ft deep trench to feed a foundation drain from the lowest point of the theater room to the garage – where a sump pit will be placed. The foundation drains collect water finds its way between the soil and the concrete basement walls. The idea is to prevent the accumulation of water, which could place additional (unplanned for) force on the basement walls and could also create water issues inside the basement. The drain sits on the exterior side of the wall, directly on top of the footing – and depending on the condition of the wall, might either be covered with pea gravel or a sheet drain system. The sheet drain system is usually for blindside walls, meaning that the exterior of the wall is not accessible after the concrete is poured.
